Chris DeGarmo left the band and was replaced Kelly Gray, a long time producer friend of the band. Kelly had huge shoes to fill and though he is definately not Chris, he brought his own distinct style and jazz driven riffs that fit Geoff and the boys well. Though he is only here for this one record, his influence gave us some great songs, Sacred Ground, Burning Man, and Liquid Sky. While Geoff is up to his usual standard of delivering a lyric. Falling Down, One Life, When the Rain Comes and the rocking Breakdown are gems in their own right but songs such as Liquid Sky and Beside You are the precious gold. From the beginning, Geoff has saved the last track of each record to leave us with a personal message. IE Is Anybody Listening from Empire, Someone Else from Promised Land to name a few. Right Side of My Mind is a song sang to the fans from Geoff. He has taken us on a journey for nearly twenty years, letting us in on the complex musing of a talented lyricist. He invites us to the right side of his mind, I for one, have ticket in hand. Was this review helpful? The Who butchered it (Tommy) and then Queensryche perfected it. Operation Mindcrime, filled with layers and subtle influences found only upon repeat listening. THough the music sounds the same from song to song, the story behind the music, the entertwining lyrics and Geoffs dead on delivery makes this rock opera an unbelieable experience. For those of us that was able to catch it live back in the day, saw Queensryche rise through the medicority of other hair bands of the day and forge their way to the top of Progressive Metal. Based solely on this one record. And thanks to MTV for the heavy rotation of the Video, Eyes of A Stranger, paved the way for one of the most prolific careers in rock history. Queensryche, rock opera, enough. Their third greatest album. Buy it right now. You will love it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Though this is by far the most successful record to date, 2006, this is one of my least favorites by Geoff and company. (Im a die hard fan so this record still rates way up) Best I Can, while lyrically and musically, very layered and quite beautiful really, I just didnt connect with the song. As well as The Thin Line, Resistance, Hand On Heart, One and Only, songs I confess I never listen too. Jet City Woman, one of the best bass riffs and certainly the most recognizable in rock, is a great song but far from the best on the record. Silent Lucidity, a beautiful song about Chris Degarmos feeling about fatherhood. But songs like Empire, a policital statement from a man who never turns away from his convictions and and equally poingant Another Rainy Night, an almost pathetic song about lost love sung to perfection by Geoff. But the real gem, Is Anybody Listening, the last track and definately the best, tells of Geoffs realization that sometimes the fans, critics, the world sees him only as a performer and not as the vulnerable man he is. I would buy this CD for this song alone. You would not be disappointed. Was this review helpful? This was the 3EB that I know and love. Blinded, track 2, speaks of love loss and almost stalkerish lyrics. Danger and Crystal Baller, more than just rockers, intimate expressions into his mind. My Hit and Run, you dont know what you have until its gone, and speaks of second chances. And with Misfits, Steven allows us to peek into how he views the world, IE, critics and na sayers that believes 3EB is produced garbage. Wake for Young Souls, a looking back and reflecting on the ones no longer with us. And Good Man, the final track brings this journey on a positive note. From the beginning, 3EB has always been about the music and peeks into Stevens mind. And they just keep getting better. A big finger to the critics. Buy this record. You wont be disappointed. But when critics turned their backs on 3EB, 3EB laughed and headed back into the studio. The result was Blue. With the exception of Never Let You Go, Steven Jenkins, song writer, singer, takes us on a journey into his pysche. 10 Days Late, a song I think every Male in the world can relate one time or another, speaks of the fear of fatherhood. Darkness, tells of understanding and reflection of ones life. While rockers, 1000 July and Deep Inside of You, speaks of love and feeling in the early stages of relationships. Darwin is a tongue and cheek song about the origins of life. All in all, Blue is not just a follow-up record from a band that gave us Semi-Charmed Life. It shows us that 3EB is serious about making music and they are not scared to break away from earlier success. Was this review helpful? If Larry the Cable Guys Aw Shucks humor falls short, which it usually does, and Jeff Foxworthys You might be a redneck becomes worse than last years Fruit Cake and Bill Engvall loses that damn sign, than Ron White is definately the stand out comdian. Interestingly white trash with a flair of Manhatten humor waiting to strike in unexpected places. Ron has a knack for phrasing and taking the obvious joke into unobvious places. Very funny even without a glass of Jack Daniels, but definately just a bit funnier with a full one. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-6 of 6 Per Page |
