Better Than It Sounds... Its hard to describe the plot of this film as its a remake of an older film and must be looked at in the context of the values of the time. Its directed beautifully, I think, and it is beautiful to look at. Some people might find the acting over the top, but you have to remember the era it is evoking. Moore, Quaid, Haybert and especially Clarkson give complex and nuanced performances. This movie is NOT anti-American or pro-gay or pro-communist as some other reviewer(s) have indicated its a simple story of self-identity, love and loss which is timeless. Most of all, its moving without being manipulative, and refers to a time and place in America which we cannot ignore. I highly recommend it for adult viewers as it has become one of my favorite movies of all time (and I usually watch horrors and monster films).
