Posted: 10/20/2008A review of Max Payne by Max_Payne_fan
This movie (as with other video game adaptaions) doesn't do max payne justice. The film is right on with it's visual's and immersive atmosphere; the sounds and music are well done. Where the movie falls short is with the cast. For instance, Mila Kunis who plays Mona Sax; a femme fatale out to avenge her sister, never convinces me that she's a cold blooded mafia assassin (she's just too cute i guess). Numerous incongruencies in the plot and a gross overuse of the valkyries turned me off almost immediately, and will likely alienate fans of the video games. This should've been called John Moore's Max Payne. Also in the game, the story is told in the form of an adult graphic novel, with all of the narrating done by the main character (think Mel Gibson in Payback). If you want to get a feel for what Max Payne is all about, watch Payback and Sin City back to back; or just stick with the games. John Moore's Max Payne; rent it.
