Marcus Nispel directs this story with a scary feeling. Doing a remake of this was probably very difficult to do, but he did a really fine job! He handles all of his actors very well as well. Scary!

Posted: 6/20/2009A review of What Goes Up by MsColoradoHigh
This movie, which takes place in 80's, has a reporter going to cover the Challenger Space Shuttle launch. He gets involved in the lives of students. Screenwriters, Jonathan Glatzer and Robert Lawson have written a smart script, which Glatzer directs nicely. The cast is very good. It kept my interest throughout.

This movie hits its many different marks. From a intelligently written screenplay by Alan Ball, director Sam Mendes proves that he knows how to subtly tell a story while, at the same time, get really good performances out of his actors. And the actors all gave great performances. Especially Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch, Wes Bentley Mena Suvari, Chris Cooper and Peter Gallagher. This movie was like seeing a wonderful theater piece.

Posted: 1/6/2009A review of Channels by MsColoradoHigh
I watched this film late at night when I was very tired. I have to say that it kept my interest at a peak. Channels starts off a little slow, but I'm thinking that it was very deliberate, because we were able to know our lead character and sort of identify with his mind set. Our lead character is a very busy guy, but he goes home and doesn't get any joy out of anything. So he surfs the TV. He comes alive when a character from a TV show appears. He totally connects with her. What she says and how she feels. About things bigger than life. After a storm, she shows up in his apartment. They question what is going on, then give in to the fact that they like being with each other. They fall in love. Then something happens and he thinks he lost her and tries desperately to get her back. He tries to control time and space. The deliciously intriguing story sounds like sci-fi, but it is not. It is very real and that is his task. To believe or not to believe. Writer and director, Nat Christian uses many subliminal elements along with hs excellent character depiction to set us up. Elements such as water and the moon and the ocean and the stars. All beautifully photographed by cinematographer, Michael Hardwick with special visual effects by Duane Condor and production design by Dolores Piazza. Christian slowly entices us into the story, gets us hooked into the love story, then drops the bomb, which I won't give away. This is story telling at its best. The actors are all equally excellent. In supporting roles, Ed Asner brings, along with his talents, dry wit with a funny tough boss portrayal. Joan Van Ark plays it tough, but shows some understanding. Taylor Negron brings sincerity to his role. John Kassir wonderfully plays a self serving talent agent. Our lead actress, Kim Oja, with great talent, plays a dual role and brings laughter and tears to us. And she's great on the eyes. Nat Christian is what they would call a truly organic acto...
