Two songs on this album that stands out. The other songs seemed to lack the creative talents both in the music and especially in the lyrics department. It is obvious that the band was certainly struggling to finish this album. As much as this album brings out in those two great songs, the rest of the album will lull you into bordem. If it were not for these two songs, the album would rate as low as Ballbreaker which is certainly a piss-poor album by the Ausies and the American frontman.
The album is more of a soundtrack of a B rated porn flick rather than a musical statement that ACDC is notorious for -- "Waiting For The Man" was almost as worthy as the two already mentioned songs... But let's face it, these two songs are good, but not their best work, true these two songs are very popular and for the wanna-be Sabbath fans, these are the first two songs that they bring up but they quickly run out of the band's tracks fast. Their wanna-bees and posers, wankers and tossers to say the least. Want to know more about Sabbath, give up on the Corporate Radio dictating to you what is good, what is not and check out Sabbath on your own, that is, if you are really a fan.
This albums further brings out and fortifies the bands gothic talents and an album that should be in every metalhead's album or CD collection. Was this review helpful? "Sign of the Southern Cross" is one of the truly thought provoking and inspiring songs they have ever written right up there with the "Children of the Sea", "NIB", "Electric Funeral", "War Pigs," , "After and Forever", "Children of the Grave", "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath", "Megalomania" and so many others.
A world without Black Sabbath, is a sky without birds... Thank God that corporate radio couldn't kill them off..
Though many do like comparing this album to "Heaven and Hell" and "Heaven and Hell" is a supurb Sabbath Album -- However "Mob Rules" takes a slightly different direction only in degrees, and for that, it is a very good album, so much in fact, "Heavy Metal" used two tracks from this album in the movie! I love Ozzy's talents he put forth in Black Sabbath and do not want to sound degrading to Ozzy at all. I thank the metal gods to be for allowing the few short years of having Ronnie James contributing in ways that no other frontman could have.
I love to to seee Dio doing more work on his own like he did with Sabbath and I love to hear Black Sabbath come out with something as powerful as the former tunes like "...Southern Cross", "Children of the Sea", and "Lady Evil" -- Though "Sign of the Souther Cross" apears on Mob Rules...
Having said this, "Heaven and Hell" ranks right up with the best of Sabbath. Sabbath with Ozzy as Frontman is a natural order of things, and all. But, Ronnie has done such a wonderful job at the helm during the absense and there is not nearly enough credit that should be out there mentioning that. I started listening to Black Sabbath when I was very young, in the very early seventies, in fact it was in the darkest days of June, 1970 when I was eight years old after coming home from the record store, paid $4.95 for the album then at Sister Rae's Records. I weas hot and heavy into Led Zeppelin then as I could remember, and when I put the needle on "Black Sabbath" the first cut on the LP, that was all it took -- I realized a dark omious horizon opened up and there was much more to life than just the bullsh!t played on the Radio which was the typical "Happy Go Lucky" fairy music of the day. I was searching, even at the age of eight, actually seven, I didn't turn eight until August of that year -- Was this review helpful? I love April Wine, and this album is certainly one of their better Albums!
This is certainly a classic and is almost as solid as "Nature of the Beast" which is one of their very best -- Thanks MSN! Was this review helpful? Thought provoking, yes, hard, yes, ozzy? MOST definately. Wonderfully crafted, dark, and leaves you wringing wet in heavy metal annointing. Ozzy refocuses his talents away from his political views and opinions and just gets busy doing what he does best, sending your soul through a dark and forboding musical extraviganza of pain, torture, and abuse. If you are an Ozzy fan and do not have this album, you're not a real Ozzy fan and I cannot help you. If you are into metal and want an album that is solid and brings forth his best talents, then this album is certainly for you! Was this review helpful? I ordered every album these boys ever came out just after listening two tracks of this album. I thorougly wonder why the f&^k this online service does not have all their albums ready to download. I had to go out to BMG Music to get all of them. Listen if you like metal, you're gonna love this group. For whatever (stupid) reason that MSN Music has these boys under "Alternative" I will never figure this out.
Okay about this band and music, if you are into Armor Saint, Anthrax, and a dash of of the Stone Temple Pilot's "Core" guitar riffs and chorus in "I'm not like you" then jump in and get this album -- It's solid all the way through and let the "needle ride" my friends 'cause this album will rattle your teeth! I have listen to this album 3 times now, and it grows on you. I like the album, they get better as they go along. Whenever I listen to Weezer, I always have a smile on my face, and that is saying something. For me, "Don't take 'em serious" and I get along with this band.
A wonderful production, and I believe that the radio will kill "Beverly Hills..." and "On Drugs". I certainly like this album the best of their collection thus far. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/19/2005A review of Isle Of Q by Noodles1962 This album was somewhat of a find for me in my uncharted isle that I uncovered on my map of rock. This album, this band sound so much like the Stone Temple Pilots with the vocals of the frontman and chorus. Though it doesn't quite pack the early day STP punch of Core or Vasoline. However there is their own originally to apreciate, but the album and band will certainly remind you of Stone Temple, and if you are a fan of STP, then you will really like this album.
The album has a great jell between each track and production of this CD is very good. I would like to see something a little more edgy and heavy on this album and I am looking forward to this band's next album. I almost gave it a solid four, but because, in my opinion, not quite edgy enough for my liking. But the album is a good listen just the same. Was this review helpful? After all these years, he still gets the women excited at his voice. Naturally, the music doesn't do the same, or have the same effect. But I like Tom still the same and love his music just the same. This double album is beyond my expectations, and my expectations of this man is quite high. One thing I was hoping for was not only a grand catelog of his older releases stemming from 1965 through 1975, but perhaps his more recent songs like the killer tune from "The Full Monte". Having said all of this, this album is still the very best collection in my opinion, and anyone being a Tom Jones fan will certainly appreciate this ultra-fine collection. Was this review helpful? To call it an album that is less than 30 minutes long is a travesty. However there is certainly some good samples on this ???? My opinion of the length aside, this CD has some good music, and if you are a Weezer fan, you'll really like the songs that are on this sample. It is a good jell of tracks and the production of the band's talents are brought fully into light. Was this review helpful? I would of apreciated to hear more of an original sound from these guys. However the album is still solid but they cannot shake the Nickleback sound, and it's almost a rip-off from the band. I really apreciated some of the retro-grade music such as "Sex Is Not The Enemy". Since this is the band's forth album, and it showed a refined performance both in the talent department of the band and its final production. It is very nice to see them bounce back from the "Great Beyond" back into the mainstream of rock. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 9/15/2005A review of The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars by Noodles1962 One of the best halmark albums by David Bowie in my humble opinion. Oddly most of the music on this wonderful album never made it on the radio with exception of the obvious. "Starman" which should of made it on the "Greatest Hits" fell short along with "Soul Love". For those who are not familiar with David Bowie or this album, I believe will be in for a pleasing surprise with the above mentioned tracks including the powerful and sweeping jewels like "It Ain't Easy", "Hang On To Yourself", "Moonage Daydream", Suffragette City" and "Rock And Roll Suicide". For the Bowie Fan, this is certainly one of his best albums that definately put Bowie in one of the most provocative performers of the time.
It's an awesome album, and that is an understatement in so many ways, Bowie proved to be the leader of the Rock and Roll path in the day. I would like to see David revisit some of his older and in my opion, better talents than of his later albums. If you like "Golden Years", "Fame", "Major Tom" then this album is certainly for you. It should be in everyone's serious music collection... Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 9/15/2005A review of Dropbox by Noodles1962 Wonderfully crafted newer and nearly underground albums. Underground, meaning simply that this album has not been killed by the radio airplay and is certainly not on the corporate list with all the music whores of today. Solid Grunging cords that rival anything by SoundGarden. The album is in the same gendre and callibur as the mentioned band, but is actually a cross between Godsmack and Alice and Chains. If you are looking for a path less traveled and a superior crafted album with vocals nearly inseperable of Alice and Chains and Godsmack's best then this album is for you.
Lyrics are concise and powerful, an album that is deep and stirring. I would certainly recommend this album to anyone who is serious about the gendre and their music collection. Was this review helpful? Sign In |
