This is my least favorite MCR allbum, and i will tell you why. This album is definately not as dark as thier previous two, and just overall doesnt seem as sincere. The songs obviously have some motivation behind them , but they just seem empty..can't really think of another word to describe them. Yes, they are catchy, but idk they just aren't the same...Most of the songs are about death (as they usually are), so it's not really a "happy album", however the pop-ish, upbeat tempo brings up the mood a bit. I guess if you were to listen to one song and judge the album off it, I would listen to Teenagers, or House of Wolves, or even Dead! over all, this one was just ok for me. Was this review helpful? So this album is very harsh and loud, and most of it is lots of screaming and yelling. I guess you can call it a cross between thier albums Very Proud of Ya, and Black Sails in the Sunset, because it still has some punk elements to it, but gets into that harder rock that Black Sails is...idk it's hard to explain. If you like hardcore music, you'll like this one. let me just say this, if you're a Decemberunderground AFI fan, chances are you will NOT like this, but if you are a pre-Sing the Sorrow AFI fan, you mite enjoy this. all in all, not bad, just not a favorite. All the songs are upbeat and fast (and sound very similar to eachother..). If you're into punk music, or are just looking for a change from the norm, check this album out! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/18/2008A review of The Art of Drowning by BeAStar0772 Ok so this is not in my top 3 AFI albums, but its probably 4th or 5th out of thier main 7. I know that sounds bad, but really this album is very nice. The lyrics are absolutly wonderful (as usual). A couple of songs have AWESOME guitar openings that i just want to listen to over and over again. I think this album beats Decemberunderground, but doesnt come close to beating Black Sails. Anyways i recommend this album, but i would also check out Black Sails in the Sunset and Sing the Sorrow. If you are only going to listen to one song to get a taste of what the album is like....listen to Days of the Phoenix...or Of Greetings and Goodbyes. awesomeness =) overall very well done album. There is not one song on here that i dont like. Of thier seven albums...this one rates as thier second best (first is Black Sails in the Sunset). AFI has some of the best lyrics i have ever heard, and this album definately shows this. Every song has something positive i could say about it. I'll just comment on a few. Dancing Through Sunday has awesome guitar in it, Leaving Song is so simple, yet so beautiful, Girls Not Grey is actually very pop-ish, yet very adicting...and very hard to get out of your head. There is just so much to say about this album, you just have to get it...it's just one of those must have albums. If you are going to listen to one song to get a taste of what the album really is, listen to Leaving Song Pt. 2. overall, wonderful album =) Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/18/2008A review of DECEMBERUNDERGROUND by BeAStar0772 Well, out of thier 7 albums, i think this rates 4th or 5th....which seeems bad i know, but i really think its very nice. It just isnt as nice as...Sing the Sorrow...or Black Sails...or a few others. Ok so lyrically, the album is wonderful, very unique. But overall, it sounds like a lot of other stuff out there. (very generic) If you liked Sing the Sorrow, i think you will like this...but in my opinion it's not as good...hm it's hard to describe, i guess you'll have to listen to it to see what i mean. I guess it seems like i'm totally bashing this album...but im not meaning to. I actually enjoyed it and listen to it a lot. It has more electronica influences in it than thier other albums, actually two of the songs were meant to go on thier Blaqk Audio CD (electronica), but they just added some more "rock elements" to it, so it could go on this CD. So i definately recommend this album, especially if you are just getting into AFI. My personal favorite song on the album is Summer Shudder, so if you are going to liisten to just one song to get a taste of waht the album will be like, listen to that one. overall very nice, just not the usal AFI, and slightly generic (4 out of five stars) =) Was this review helpful? I really like this album because it's very harsh and raw, and you can really feel the emotion behind each song. This is definatley not a "happy" album, it talks about more dark things...but it is still wonderful in its own way. Just listen and you'll know what i mean. Early Sunsets Over Monroeville is absolutly beautiful, but if there is just ONE song you have to listen to on this album.....it would have to be Skylines and Turnstiles. written after 9.11, i think it's awesome. If your looking for something like Black Parade...this is NOT the album for you. Its different, but in my opinion much better. Anyways give this album a try!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/17/2008A review of Black Sails in the Sunset by BeAStar0772 wow. This album is amazing. Lyrically, this album is a masterpiece; they are so beautiful and unique... unlike anything i have ever heard before. This is thier best album (in my opinion). The only criticism i would have is that you cant understand the lyrics in several parts, and have to look them up...BUT even having said that, the songs still work even if you dont know the lyrics...just knowing the lyrics makes it better =). I will say that this album is very dark...so if you're looking for something like Decemberunderground...you're looking at the wrong album. God Called in Sick Today is absolutely beautiful, along with Clove Smoke Catharsis. The intro is probably one of the best intro's i've ever heard...it totally gets you excited for what the rest of the album will sound like. If there is one song that gives you a taste of what the whole album is like....I would say try Narrative of Soul Against Soul. It's beautiful lyrically, and has fast, harsh music like most of the other songs on here. If you liked Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes or The Art of Drowning, I think you will enjoy this. Just give it a try! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/17/2008A review of Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge [Explicit] by BeAStar0772 This album beats the Black Parade by a mile! When i first heard the black parade, i thought it was pretty good, but then i heard this, and was pleasntly suprised! I think it's much better. The album is themed so it tells more of a story...and i like that. It seems sort of theatrical, especially with his voice...which i guess could be a good or a bad thing, depending on your preference. I definately recommend you give it a try, i think you'll grow to like it. If you've never listened to MCR before, you might find the singer's voice odd, but it fits the songs well. i will say that these songs are by no means "happy songs", most (if not all) have something to do with death...so if you're looking for some "happy feel good songs", then this is not the album for you....but if you're just looking for some good music to listen too..DEFINATELY GIVE THIS ALBUM A LISTEN. I also recommend thier earlier album I Brought You My Bullets, Your Brought Me Your Love. Anyways, that's the end of my long review =) OH wait if you're looking for ONE song to get a sample of what this CD is all about, listen to Helena. (one of my all time favs of thiers) Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-9 of 9 Per Page |
